  I purchased the KG-UV9PX after getting my Technicians license in April of this year. I am very happy with the radio, and having just tested it using a TinySA Ultra + can confirm that this is NOT one of those cheap radios from China you hear so much hate about. Once it settles down, there is only one harmonic strong enough to show up on the TinySA on both the VHF and UHF bands. In my case the harmonic displayed was over 45dB lower than the fundamental, which means the radio meets or exceeds the FCC requirements.

  I do not hesitate to recommend this radio! And, Mark has provided me with very timely responses to my after purchase support questions.

  This is an outstanding radio. I have had no issues with reviving or transmitting. Plenty of power and clear speaker. My one complaint and I read this somewhere else also, in the cold the screen goes white. I had it outside for maybe 10 minutes tonight at a shooting match I was working, it was about 30 degrees outside and it went white so you could not see anything on the screen. It will still receive and transmit but you cannot see the screen.

I haven't heard of widespread problems with the screen in cold conditions - have you tried keeping the radio inside a nylon radio case to try and insulate it a little? TFT displays don't do so great in freezing conditions, but the radio is rated to operate (i.e. communicate) down to 22 degrees F. Cheers and Be Safe!]

  Great radio. Bought it in case SHTF and to at least be able listen in on any important updates and connect with users in my area. There’s definitely a learning curve if you're coming into this scene cold but it’s doable with the manual and YouTube video resources available and just playing with it putting in the practice. People always stop me and ask me about it when I’m out and about playing with it on hikes or in the city. They always say “I need to get one of those.” Thanks!

  This one is the best so far. In my search for the best handheld antenna I think I've purchased them all. There is no such thing as the perfect antenna but this one is the best so far.

  As it stands right at the moment of this review, this is my favorite radio by far. There is one of another brand that gets close due to some features and band coverage, but the features of this radio surpass the other at the end. I love that I can scan groups, which makes it very easy to find activity. The feel and performance are excellent. I do agree with the screen being difficult to read but like it was mentioned before, almost all radios with this type of screen are in the same page. I have adjusted the programmed frequency to a more local approach, but I have left the core intact. Of course, I also saved the original programming! That list of frequencies must have taken a lot of time to create since it is an all-inclusive. This is My Precious! Out of the collection, it gets the special treatment! I think it is a great purchase and wouldn't hesitate to get another if needed. Oh! about customer service... IT IS A++ Thank you for answering my email and help me with my mess up.

  This is the new best HT I own. Recently, I wrote a review for my KG-UV9G PRO GMRS stating the same thing. However, now that I've received this PX Ham model, it takes the cake. Mind you it's not better by a wide margin but most aspects of the radio do seem to perform slightly better and I haven't found aspects that are worse. I was going to return the UV9G PRO radio, but when I requested to start the return process, Mark's (the site owner) prompt and accommodating response made me decide to spare him the hassle/expense and just keep it as a very good backup radio.   Lastly, it does transmit over 5 Watts on UHF frequencies and one could use CHIRP to easily expand transmission frequency range up to 468 MHz. However, no licensed radio user would condone such a thing, of course, because the FCC doesn't allow transmitting with this radio outside of its stock frequency ranges except if required to in a life threatening emergency. It also risks voiding the warranty and bricking the radio.

  If you were to buy a similar radio from one of the big name brands, it would easily cost double this amount. The only feature I wish this radio had was the ability to program NOAA SAME codes. With that said, it's still a wonderful radio. I bought a few KG805G's a while back for the family, and while those are o.k. radios, you can feel the difference in quality with this radio. I would definitely recommend this radio to anyone who it looking for a "do-it-all" analog HT.

  P.S. If you do any modifications, (we won't go into detail here), be aware that there are frequency hard limits that if hit, will reset the radio to factory settings. I won't say exactly what these limits are, but if you back the frequency off 1-2 MHz at a time, from the maximum allowed, you will easily find these limits. If you don't know what I'm talking about, then you probably shouldn't be modding the radio in the first place. Moral of the story is, save a backup .img and CSV of the radio, so you don't have to call Mark crying that you deleted all the preloaded frequencies.

  Mark was also a pleasure to deal with. In today's day and age, everyone expects instant gratification. I went into this knowing BSR is a "One-Man-Show", but had I not known this already, I would have never suspected it wasn't a huge operation. Mark answered every single question, I had, by the end of the day, and most of the time, within a few minutes. Even on weekends!

  Great radio. Best HT I’ve owned so far. Others are Wouxun KG-905G Plus, Tidradio TD-H3 GMRS, QuanSheng UV-K6 5(8). This scans a band more quickly AND you can simultaneously be scanning a 2nd band. Reception is a little better than my Wouxun KG-905Gs and it’s significantly more clear than the other two cheaper radios. This is just an all around better, more modern, yet still easy to use radio. I was seriously considering the KG-935G Plus but I’m very glad I went this route instead.

  It was my first time to buy from BetterSaferRadio, but it won’t be my last. Shipping was earlier than the estimated despite me buying during the 4th of July.
